Anti-Wrinkles Injections

Also known as BOTOX

Botulinum toxin is used to reduce fine lines and wrinkles by paralysing the underlying muscles. People also use Botox to treat excessive sweating, migraines, muscular disorders. Botox is actually the trade name for a substance injected into the skin which is known to inhibit muscle movement, and that can prevent wrinkles from developing or worsening.

The name ‘Botox’ actually comes from the word ‘botulous’ – which means sausage.

Anti-Wrinkle Injections are now one of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the world and there is a plethora of celebs who are rumoured as swearing by youth-keeping injections. While it is immensely popular for aesthetic purposes, Botox is actually pretty handy for other conditions too, including stopping excessive sweat.

Anti-Wrinkle Injections are the most popular cosmetic treatment – with over a whopping six million Botox treatments administered every year.

Botox is a neurotoxin derived from Clostridium botulinum – an organism found in the natural environment where it is pretty much inactive and non-toxic.

  • How does it work?

Cosmetic Botox injections work by blocking the nerve signals to certain muscles. The muscles then become more relaxed. This reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the skin.

  • What to expect during the treatment?

This is a relatively safe treatment, but it should always be undertaken by a professionally qualified aesthetician to ensure that you are getting the correct amount in the right area.

You shouldn’t have botulinum injections if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, since the effects on the baby aren’t                  known.

Local anaesthetic isn’t usually needed, but we can always use local numbing cream to avoid discomfort.

Your skin is cleaned, and small amounts of botulinum toxin are injected into the muscles of the face to be treated.              Several injections are usually needed at different sites. It takes about 10 minutes.

  • How many treatments are needed?

Botox freezes muscle movement by blocking neuro-transmitters and this effect lasts for 4-6 months – this means              you will need top-ups a few times a year if you wish to maintain your line-free look.

Once you’ve had Botox injected, the effects on the muscles usually become apparent within three to five days                      before the injections take effect, and up to two weeks for the full effect to be seen.

Avoid massaging or rubbing the treated areas for up to three days.

The effects generally last for about four to six months. If you want to maintain the effect, you’ll need regular follow-            up injections.

  • Do Anti-Wrinkle injections treat my skin or my muscles?

Botox is most effective at treating wrinkles caused by overused muscles becoming stuck in a certain expression.            Make a worried face or raise your eyebrows — if you see vertical lines appear between your eyebrows or                            horizontal lines across your forehead, these can eventually form into wrinkles if you make this kind of expression              frequently.

The active ingredient in Botox, botulinum toxin type A, is a muscle relaxant — when Botox is injected into your                    facial muscles, any built-up tension that results in wrinkles is released, allowing your skin to settle into a smoother            texture.
