Fat dissolving injections are an effective way to dissolve the stubborn areas of fat simply, rapidly and safely, which are difficult to reduce with diet and exercise.

The fat dissolving injections contain deoxycholic-acid, a secondary bile acid and endogenous substance to permanently dissolve fat without the need of surgical liposuction.

A solution is injected into the localised deposits of tissue into areas which liquefies the fat cell and destroys it permanently. The lipids (contents of the fat cells) are then released and eliminated naturally through the lymphatic system.

Dissolving fat with injections typically requires a course of two to four treatments with four to six-week intervals between each session. Although the procedure does not hurt, you should expect some swelling which can take up to three weeks to subside.

There are few ways to solve the problem of small pockets of fat. The presence of fat is regarded as a sign of ageing in the lower face. Plain liposuction in the area will remove the fat, but does not give significant tightening to the tissues, and there can be a concern of seeing the platysma muscle bands through the skin following treatment. What to expect at the appointment?

It’s important that any treatment is performed after a consultation, to make sure it’s right for you. Your skin is then cleaned and the product is mixed with local anaesthesia. We then inject the area with a fine needle to introduce the product. Some massage is then applied, and you’re done. For the best results, you’ll need between two and eight treatments, depending on the size of the area treated. Most common is two to three treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart. Due to the formation of new collagen as a result of the inflammation of this treatment, skin tightening procedures are not necessary afterwards.

What to expect after my Fat Dissolving Injection?

Immediately after treatment you may appear red and swollen with some bruising on the treated area. Fat Dissolving Injections work by causing an inflammatory reaction in the fat cells which can result in swelling for 3-5 days. Therefore, if you intend to have a facial treatment, e.g. double chin where the swelling may be obvious, you may wish to organise time away from work or social engagements.

You will be able to reduce the swelling by using a cool pack wrapped in a clean cloth for a maximum of 20 minutes each day. You cannot use anti-inflammatory tablets for 48 hours after treatment as this will work against the treatment. The treated area may feel tender and firm for up to 8 weeks post treatment.

During recovery we recommend that you avoid:

Swimming pools, spas and saunas for 3 days.
Physical exercise for 10 days.
Any other aesthetic treatments for 2 weeks.

How many sessions are required and when can I see the results?

The number of treatments required varies depending on the size of the fatty deposit.

Typically 1-3 treatments for small areas, such as the jowls and under the chin, and 2-8 treatments for larger areas such as the thighs. Treatments are spaced at 6 weekly intervals.

Your result will show 6 weeks after your final treatment which is when you will have a complimentary review with your practitioner.

Whilst the body can regenerate fat cells – the process is very slow. So once fat cells are removed from a localised area your results are as good as permanent. However, if you do not continue to maintain a healthy lifestyle then your body will put on weight in other areas of your body where fat cells remain.
