Profhilo
Profhilo is an injectable anti-ageing treatment made from hyaluronic acid for skin that is losing its elasticity and firmness with age. It can be used on the face, neck, decollete, arms, hands and knees, or any part of your body where the skin shows visible signs of ageing. There is an immediately noticeable improvement in skin tone, hydration as well as firmness, and lines are minimised.

Profhilo is the first BDDE – free established injectable hyaluronic acid (HA) based product for treating skin Laxity. Hyaluronic acid is best known as a ‘filler’ and is usually used to give volume to lips or to contour other areas of the face. Profhilo differs from the usual fillers in a number of ways due to its structure which allows it to flow over an extended area to boost hydration and smooth or ‘remodel’ the skin.

How Does It Work?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance produced in our body, found in skin, joints and other connective tissue. Its role is to retain moisture in the body and aid collagen production. It can hold 1000 times its weight in water which makes it ideal for binding moisture in the skin. With age hyaluronic acid production slows and the skin looks duller and dehydrated, with fine lines and wrinkles forming.
As a stabilised product Profhilo last in the skin around 28 days. During this time the stimulation of 4 different types of collagen and elastin takes place by slow release of HA. It contains one of the highest concentrations of stabilised hyaluronic acid on the market. Because it is thermally bonded and not chemically bonded it acts as a hydrator not a filler. It is injected just underneath the surface of the skin where it disperses quickly and reacts with your own tissue to instantly boost hydration. Over the next four weeks phase two kicks in as it goes to work boosting elastin and collagen production. This effectively remodels the skin and giving it a plumper, smoother and firmer appearance.
Due to its gel like consistency Profhilo distributes smoothly and evenly without the formation of any lumps – a potential risk with traditional fillers. This means it can be used on areas which are difficult to treat with traditional fillers, such as the neck and forehead.

Before Profhilo treatment

We offer a free consultation and skin analysis with your initial appointment. Everyone’s skin is different, so our therapist will take great care to tailor your treatment to your needs. You will have a patch test to ensure we can produce the safest, most effective results for your skin type.
Also, we recommend in the week before your treatment, try to avoid taking aspirin, ibuprofen or any other type of anti-inflammatory medication as this will reduce your risk of swelling and bruising. Ask your aesthetician for further advice if you have any concerns.

What to expect at the appointment?
When a person receives an IV vitamin treatment, they’re receiving a liquid mixture of vitamins and minerals through a small tube inserted into a vein. This allows the nutrients to be absorbed quickly and directly into the bloodstream, a method that produces higher levels of the vitamins and minerals in your body than if you got them from food or supplements. This is because several factors affect our body’s ability to absorb nutrients in the stomach. Factors include age, metabolism, health status, genetics, interactions with other products we consume, and the physical and chemical makeup of the nutritional supplement or food. Higher levels of the vitamins and minerals in your bloodstream lead to greater uptake into cells, which theoretically will use the nutrients to maintain health and fight illness.

What happens during the Profhilo treatment?
During Profhilo treatment, your desired body part will be injected with roughly 2ml of hyaluronic acid-based treatment in around five places. This is injected just below the skin layer where it quickly disperses and spreads throughout the skin, providing instant hydration.

What happens after? What results can I expect to see?
After the treatment, it is recommended to avoid physical strain and sports for 24 hours. Please also avoid having further cosmetic procedures for 48 hours. It is not recommended to have a sauna or steam bath for the first few days either. It’s best to stay out of the sun if any bruising or prolonged swelling occurs.
Although Profhilo treatments can instantly rejuvenate and hydrate skin, it typically takes 4 to 6 weeks to work properly since the treatment injected requires some time to spread and trigger collagen and elastic production within your body. Since everybody is different, the time can vary between a month to two months.

PROCEDURE TIME
Between; 45 mins -1 hour
DOWNTIME
There is no downtime with Profhilo. However, it’s advisable to avoid alcohol, aspirin or anti-inflammatory medication in the 24 hours prior to the treatment. Vitamin C and Vitamin E can also increase the likelihood of bruising, but it is fine to use 48 hours after.
Immediately afterwards, it’s important to avoid wearing make-up and strenuous exercise such as going to the gym, swimming or extreme sports and hot steam rooms and saunas for at least 24 hours.
DURATION OF RESULTS
Longevity does vary between individuals, but results are expected to be gained over a period of 4-6 weeks and last for approximately 6 months. If you choose not to maintain the results with further treatment, your skin will return to its pre-treatment state over time. Most people can continue with normal activities.
